I spoke with Harold on the phone today regarding a private mortgage, and I found him to be straightforward and honest. To be honest, he didn’t want to take on my mortgage because of the reviews from some of you out there. The man is just trying to make an honest living. The issue people had before was with a contractor and edlery lady who received the funds to complete the work not Harold. He was simply the lender. That lady had lawyers, underwriters(title insurance), insurance company who would've flagged it if it was fraudulent to begin with. Do you blame your bank every time you miss a payment or default? Business is business, regardless of age, and ignorance isn’t an excuse. People like me lose out on opportunities to secure quick loans $50-100k, even with 90% equity on my property which is 10 percsnt ltv because of backlash lenders like Harold hesitate to take on mortgages. It’s a shame that, as Canadians, we need better financial literacy instead of always pointing fingers when things go wrong. Harold will be missed in the small private lending sector. He’s not a predatory lender, he simply expects people to honor the agreements they sign.
Harold is wonderful person, he was very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. This guy knows his stuff and I would definitely do business again with him.
Really weird establishment, Harold seemed like he was on mwth or something? Said he had to step out, probably itching for his next fix he kept repeating the same thing and slowly backing away to get to the back room while stuttering about how fussy people are about squash?! I thought this was a jewelry store not a farmers market
I just read the story “Retired nurse fighting back after mortgage “nightmare “ in the Toronto Star by Kevin Donovan, Chief Investigative Reporter- I recommend that anyone seeking to do business with Harold Gerstel read the article!
Had a difficult experience with him and would look elsewhere in the future, such as to a mortgage broker and not someone who needs to be barricaded in his place of business due to such unethical practices.
i went a couple of days ago and pawn a bracelet and a necklace as i needed cash so badly. harold asked me how much money i needed and sealed the deal immediately.. the problem was, they dont look at the current value of your item.they rely basically on the amount you need which is ridiculous. i know the value of my items but just because i needed a little cash, i just agreed to his offer. To my surprise, the interest rate is a total ripped off.. 100$ for a 500$ loan for 7days is over the top.interest rate for 7days?!!!! this is a total rip off.knowing the value of my jewelry, their offer is so cheap and absurdzz if you are thinking about pawning your expensive pieces, i strongly suggest avoiding HaroldsZthey wont even offer a receipt until i asked them..Im generous enough to give them 2 stars as i could not think of any positive area this place have.. i dont think its worth returning to the store..
Would highly NOT RECOMMEND - I thought I would write an experience on behalf of my parents. They went in to look for a fair price like everyone would, however upon showing the jewelry, Harold went to the back to further inspect it and came back with a lowball offer (to be expected). When my parents turned it down, he gave it back, however the chain was cut. My parents were obviously upset as he had no reason to cut the chain. My parents asked why he had cut it (did not explain), his response was, “Well you have two options now you can sell it to me now, or you can pay me to repair it” - Lesson learned do not trust anyone to take anything to further inspect while losing sight of your possession. Experience 0/5 Fairness 0/5 Trustworthiness 0/5 While reading a few posts it’s pretty clear that the high rated reviews all have only one review hence these are all new account to bring up the rating. Not to add the responses from Harold have all be examples of how your experience would be like if you visit the store.
