Great setting and the addition of other setters has balanced the gym out a lot! I used to agree with other reviews that found it really sandbagged and had a hard time even finishing V3s, but I think it's now got really great progression of grading in the climbs :) everything feels more projectable now! And super friendly staff which give the spot a really welcoming environment. And a cool gym phone stand! Now I'm excited to work on some climbs! Also you can earn buttons which is a bonus for me!
Fantastic setting and setters. Creative. Great for developing good technique starting right from V1s. If you want to get into outdoor bouldering, this is the best place to learn as the setting is intended to allow you to develop the necessary technique, strength, skill and experience to do so. Different styles (slab, crimp, dynamic, balance focused at each grade), filter, moon, campus and tension boards are brilliant. You can't run out of problems to work on. The staff are awesome people; friendly, welcoming, encouraging and they listen to feedback. Even though there are definitely groups of climbers, there aren't the cliques I've sometimes encountered elsewhere. There's also a great strength training area with several different hangboards. Finally there's a little picnic area with wireless charging if you want to do some work while there. There's also a ton of parking.
Great gym that focuses on community! First time visiting I went in and chatted with the desk staff, who I later learned was one of the owners, and picked up on strong community vibes from the start. I got a quick tour of the gym which was pretty much brand new and it had all the things you'd want in a new gym: i.e. boards (TB2, kilter, and MB2024), workout area, movement focused climbing, plus free coffee/tea was a nice perk. You can see they're still expanding too which is awesome. I could also tell that the gym focuses on community there was a little "V grade pin game", some group event posters, local food/drink. Overall great stuff!
Very grateful to have found an amazing climbing gym and community. The setting is *chefs kiss* but also wonderfully challenging, and closer to outdoor grading, which for me is awesome because this will only make me stronger! For me, Hogtown Boulders’ problems tend to quietly invite me to stretch outside of my comfort zone. For example, I have avoided dynos for over 10 years but the approachable dynamic moves that the gym has to offer (even if it’s just the first move) has been great for me to get stronger and improve my technique. After a few months at this gym (a couple times/week), I’d say there’s a lot of love and consideration put into everything. From ample parking space, cleanliness, range of problems involving technical crimps to stemming, smearing, dynamic starts, slab/balance, overhangs and boards, open concept kitchenette for study/hangs, dog-friendly vibes, tons of social/community events and most importantly the stoke and encouragements from the staff/setters. As someone who is far from being an advanced climber, I have never felt intimidated by the community or the staff and have only been met by support! Thanks for opening your doors Hogtown Boulders!
Awesome gym with some of the best setting in the gta (imo). Expect boulders to be both physically and technically challenging, often in subtle ways that take patience and perserverence to solve. The gym also includes a Kilter board, Tension board, Moon board and one of the nicest spray walls around town. New climbers may find grades harder than they're used to, but will often be able to get up boulders after putting their problem solving skills to the test.
great gym, very clean, and holds quite a few events. there's a good number of walls along with a few moonboards and spray walls. overall no complaints aside from having few walls, climbers here are friendly and the staff are polite.
My skill level: V2 Hogtown (V3) in nearby gym - There definitely lower raw amount of routes especially in the beginner difficulty ranges compared to other gyms. Though I find that the routes here are extremely well done and thought out. - Routes for beginners all the way to ungodly levels. Definitely a gym targeted for a more experienced climbers, but would be a shame to write off a first visit as even a beginner. - Very clean, spacious, holds are in a great condition with some nice grip, rentals are very nice. Tons of seating and kitchen. - Staff was friendly and gave a tour. 5/5, would hog again.
