I had a very disappointing experience at this Store. I purchased a bag of garri that was **labelled as 25lb**, paid for it, and left the store. While on the bus, the weight felt suspiciously light, so I returned **within 5 minutes** to have it checked. I placed it on the store’s scale and it showed **10lb (4kg)* — less than half of what was advertised. I pointed this out to the staff and explained that this is a clear case of *mislabeling and overcharging*, which is unacceptable and misleading to customers. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, the staff member told me “no refunds”, without any reasonable explanation, that I can pick something else for the $30+ paid. This policy makes no sense for an item bought just minutes before — especially when the error was on their part. To make matters worse, *every other bag on the shelf marked 25lb was also underweight*. The staff even called someone who insisted this was the correct weight, despite the scale in front of us proving otherwise. This is extremely concerning and feels like a deliberate *sharp practice*, potentially in violation of *Ontario consumer protection guidelines* around accurate product representation. After much back and forth, the staff eventually processed the refund, but the entire experience left a very bad impression. Customers should not have to fight to be treated fairly, especially when the evidence is right there. *Truly a poor experience. Oyato needs to do better — honest labeling and transparent customer service are the bare minimum. This incident appears to violate Ontario’s rules regarding accurate product representation and fair business practices, and may impact other unsuspecting customers who do not check the weight before leaving the store.
Bought big bag of Guyanese rice here just now .used Uber because of this same rice as it was too heavy to carry home only to discover so many ants inside the rice and the ants filled everywhere in my house.I am so pained.I bought a lot of things ,the least they could do was tell me to come back another time rather than selling that bag of rice to me.I can’t return it because I have opened it.This is bad
The bagging for your biggest sized Garri should be changed or worked on. The green painting stuff used to print on the nylon package gets into the garri itself and makes it unhealthy. One keeps picking out the green paint stuff from the garri every time. You can use a clear nylon bag for packaging, if the poor paint used on it can't be improved on to avoid food poisoning, and consumption of paint particles every time you eat this.
Good products and competitive prices with a wide range of Nigerian and African groceries available. On your prices though, stop rounding up the amount to the nearest whole number, check-it-out for what you listed it. When you go to other grocery stores, they don't round it up for one when checking-out, what is listed is what is checked out; $25.99 is 25.99 during check-out and not $26. It is a wrong practice. Just sell for $26 outrightly instead of the listing $25.99 and checking out $26.
Poor customer service from the woman in the store. The man I speak to over the phone is more polite and relatable than the lady who is the store. Please she needs know how to relate better with customers because you get customers from far and wide. Asides from that it’s a good store.
The yam flour I purchased was more than expired. And ironically, no expiration date was listed on the package. Please be vigilant in ensuring you’re selling quality things.
This is the best place to shop for variety of African Products. They follow COVID precautions. We bought Ofada rice and garri ijebu from there Good customer service as well
