I absolutely love their bok choy with shiitake steamed bun — soft, fragrant and full of flavour — and the diced pork with glutinous rice sticky rice dumpling is rich, satisfying and perfectly seasoned. Everything tastes fresh, portions are generous, and it’s become one of my favourite places for a quick bite.
best mooncake and bun ever in Toronto. Make me feel absolutely at home. Love it and will recommend to friends always. The boss is super nice and friendly. Will deserve it to line up.
Stumbled upon Mary Bun one night just before they closed. Upon entering, I was greeted and wanted to try a shaomai. I was considering only getting 2 shaomai and the cashier recommended I get 4 since they otherwise only had cold ones to sell. I don’t know the reason for this but I gave in to the upsell. I got 4 for $11 + tax. As I was paying, I told her it was my first time trying their food and she said to not worry, I’d love it. Turns out this is one of those rare moments in life I don’t regret the upsell and the cashier was 100% correct. The shaomai was huge and delicious! Eating 2 satiated my hunger. I think if I ate all 4, I’d be really full. I saved one for the next morning but it was so delicious, my partner ate it. I ended up ordering more over the weekend because I loved it so much. Recommend 10/10!
I spent a part of my (much travelled) childhood in Nanjing. The food at Mar Bun (燒賣姑娘) brings back fond memories. The shumai are the kind from the Yangtze area of China, very different from the Cantonese version one gets at dim sum. The same goes for their delicious zhongzi (種子). The duck gizzard (鴨胗) is an acquired taste, lol. It’s a 江浙 area specialty. I brought all the food to my mum’s, and she really liked it. Also, the lady at the front was super friendly and bubbly. I will be back for sure.
I really like hole-in-wall places. I find they're often gems in the rough where a couple of people serve amazing food from a limited menu. This one did not disappoint! No seating, take out only. To communicate the order we used letters and numbers from the menu board. I was thinking dimsum sizes so ended up with more food than I could eat in a single meal. (Not a bad thing though). The bao and dumplings are gigantic in comparison to typical Cantonese style servings, each was equivalent to an entire dimsum order. I had a pork and a beef bao, and a couple of pork dumplings and a another couple that had meat and an egg yoke as filling. Everything was delicious. Service was great. The two ladies were very nice and had fun with the challenges to communicate. They didn't have exactly what I ordered so they made a substitution and then gifted me a hardboiled egg. Definitely going back. I'm definitely trying the pork moon cakes.
It's a really good place with large portions and decent prices. The lady who works there is really friendly too! I would have loved if they had a bigger seating area, but I get why that is unviable as of now.
I came across this place while my boyfriend and I were trying the bubble right next to it, and we are sooooo happy I saw it! I love savory pastry food and I immediately wanted to try the pork mooncake. The lady who took our order knew right away it was our first time being there and was very sweet letting us know what came as a combo and what you can buy individually. My boyfriend wanted to try their pork bun but decided to save it for our next visit. When we were ready to order we said the pork mooncake and that was all for now, she kindly asked "no pork bun?" And we said we will definitely try next visit, and she says "here, I give you a fresh warm one to try so you can order it next time". Wow. My boyfriend and I went home so happy, we ate everything with mouth watering joy. This is the best dim sum quick Chinese food take out place we have ever eaten, the lady's kindess made it 10x better! We came back today and got the same things except this time trying the salted egg and pork siu mai. It's safe to say we will be repeat costumers and make sure to try something new with every visit! If you haven't tried the food already, you must go, the texture and flavours are just perfect. I recommend it for anyone
